In Cambridge, Massachusetts, across from Harvard Yard, lies a cemetery. It is a very old cemetery with graves going back to the 1600’s when the first Europeans came to America.
Walking through this cemetery at any time of year is a history lesson in and of itself. But walking these hallowed grounds on Memorial Day takes on an entirely new meaning. There are graves of men and women who gave their lives for the cause of liberty and freedom from tyranny. Soldiers who died at the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and Bunker Hill lie here, arguably amongst our first veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice to our great nation.
Today, on Memorial Day, we honor their memory and the memory of all veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in freedom. From this grateful citizen, Thank You.
